Middlesex-London is on the verge of entering either the highly restrictive grey zone or maybe a full lockdown of pandemic restrictions, its associate medic of health warned Wednesday.

“Our numbers are pushing us very clearly into the grey levels and above of the provincial framework,” Alex Summers said because the number of latest daily cases of COVID-19 reached 97 and another person in their 80s died of the virus. “COVID is transmitting readily and simply in our community.”

The 97 new cases are the very best locally since Jan. 15, but it’s not the sole number to copy Summers’ warning about more restrictions coming under the province’s color-coded pandemic system. The region moved from orange to the more restrictive red zone Tuesday.

Six days ago, there have been 69 cases with variants of the virus that are considered more contagious and in some cases more deadly. the amount of variant cases is now at 157.

The new cases bring a grim milestone to the region, which has now seen quite 7,000 confirmed cases — 7,091 to be exact — since the pandemic began a year ago.

Perhaps the foremost poignant number: it had been the second day during a row that an individual in their 80s and not in any senior care facility died of the virus. That’s the primary time since January that folks within the region have died of the virus on consecutive days.

Neither man had received the vaccine, said Summers, adding he wasn't sure why.

Their deaths emphasize the importance of everyone getting the vaccine once they can to guard not only themselves but also others, he said.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit recognizes there are barriers, especially for that unacquainted technology, in making appointments online, Summers said.

“That is why we still have the telephone line available. There are certain appointments available a day .”

This week, the health unit opened vaccines for people aged 70 and over, and on a primary day, appointments were filled up to and including April 13. The health unit has the power to vaccinate more people every day if supplies were available, Summers said.

As of Sunday, 78,380 of the approximate 510,000 residents in Middlesex-London had received a minimum of one dose of the vaccine.

There was another positive news Wednesday. The outbreak at the Essex Hall residence at Western University was declared over, leaving three other residence halls and a staff unit at the university experiencing outbreaks.
