State senator asks for investigation into deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the Tilton Veteran's Home

 TILTON, N.H. —

More than 100 long-term care facilities in New Hampshire have addressed a COVID-19 outbreak since the beginning of the pandemic, consistent with the Department of Health.


Sen. Cindy Rosenwald said last spring she asked the department to stay a watchful eye on the New Hampshire Veteran's range in Tilton.

"The people that live there are very frail, old, and vulnerable to infectious diseases," Rosenwald said.

An outbreak hit the house in November with 93 residents and 99 staff members testing positive.

Of the residents who tested positive, 37 died from the virus.

Dr. Beth Daly of the state's Bureau of communicable disease Control said the govt visited Tilton and didn't see substantial COVID-19 violations.

"When we went and visited the Veteran's range in this example, now it is a few months after their outbreak has ended, we didn't identify any substantial concerns which will have led to increased transmission within the facility," Daly said.

The home checked a sufficient number of boxes for areas like personal protective equipment and screening protocols during a DHHS report.

Officials couldn't decipher how the virus entered the power.

Rosenwald is demanding an independent investigation of the outbreak.

Rosenwald asks for $250,000 in Senate Bill 132 to rent an outdoor contractor.

"To really get an in-depth review of what happened during those two months where a few quarters of the veterans died from COVID," Rosenwald said.

Brandon Pratt from Governor Sununu's office defended the first review.

"The review conducted by experts at the Department of Human Services was comprehensive and thoroughly examined all practices and protocols from the highest down," Pratt said.
