Officials see progress in fight against COVID-19 as state nears 1 million Oklahomans vaccinated

 OKLAHOMA CITY —

The number of latest COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations is dropping because the state approaches 1 million Oklahomans vaccinated.


But we still have work before us.

Just like much of the country, Oklahoma has seen great progress within the fight against COVID-19. One big thing to notice is that since the state started vaccinations with older people, Oklahoma has seen that group within the hospital due to the virus much less.

Overall, hospitalizations are dropping from a peak in January of nearly 2,000 to under 300 now. Cases have also dropped dramatically, with Oklahoma now reporting a mean of 513 each day, which the state hasn’t seen since last July.

Also, nearly a one-fourth of all Oklahomans have gotten a minimum of the round, putting the state before most over states.

Still, there are reasons for caution. Declines in cases and hospitalizations, which were once dramatic, have slowed a touch and are still above what health officials would really like.

Health leaders say a spring surge remains possible.

“We don’t want to wave the victory flag just yet,” Commissioner of Health Lance Frye said. “I’ve been telling my team, I would like to urge past respite. I would like to urge fortnight past respite and see what happens. I feel that’s getting to be a really good temperature check on what’s happening .”

The message from health officials really has been to urge vaccinated as soon as you most likely can and to stay holding to health precautions for now. Hopefully, we should always then be in fine condition this summer.
